This course is aimed at exposing student teachers to all aspects of development of children at the early childhood level. Teachers must be equipped with course content and new methodologies whereby Religious and Moral Education can be imparted. While the course does not seek to proselytize, teachers need to impart certain basic knowledge about religious practices. Therefore, this course will examine the work of theorists and the impact of religious experiences on the child. It will seek to guide student-teachers in assisting children at the Early Childhood level to make moral decisions suitable for their age group.

This course will equip students with the ability to manage problems and issues associated with administration and supervision of personnel within the early childhood educational system. It examines the qualities and core functions of school leaders, administrators, and supervisors, their leadership styles and how these styles affect the quality, daily operations and management of early childhood programmes. Through simulations, the student will know how to develop and manage quality programmes for young children while adhering to the laws, regulations, policies, standards, and ethics which govern the operation of such institutions.

The main focus of this course is on the educational uses of Information and Communication Technology (ICT); allowing for the balancing of learning theories and educational technology applications. The course treats fundamentals of planning, design, and production of instructional multimedia tools; the application of instructional design principles in the evaluation and selection of Information and Communication Technologies. There are opportunities for students to practice and use educational media and equipment in a cooperative learning environment and in various micro-teaching situations. The practical approach to the delivery will facilitate the development of collaborative skills, problem-solving skills, hands-on skills and attitudinal skills required to integrate technology in the curriculum. This course is based on the notion that it is imperative that teachers provide opportunities for students to engage in authentic learning experiences within and beyond the walls of the classroom.

The course, Advanced Studies in Literacy II is essential as it stresses the importance of applying knowledge of various approaches to the teaching of literacy via the components of reading.
