This course is designed to give student teachers the opportunity to apply/put into practice all the knowledge, methodologies and strategies they have been exposed to over 3 semesters in relation to ECE. The practical application will further expose students to authentic situations in the ECE classroom over a 3-month period. The entire process will be guided by the Practicum Handbook and values 9 credits.

The course is designed to enable practicing teachers who are pursuing the Bachelor of Science in ECE to investigate their own teaching in order to improve practice and deepen their understanding of it. Classroom teachers are expected to understand their roles as classroom managers and develop skills appropriate to the various tasks they are expected to perform. This course seeks to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively select and implement appropriate experiences to support the physical development of young children. Emphasis is on the selection of materials, equipment and related design of indoor and outdoor environments. It encompasses a brief history and covers the benefits to be derived from physical education, with special emphasis on movement education and minor games. In addition, students will acquire knowledge of basic first aid practices including safety factors. Participation in this course will enable student teachers to create opportunities for children to respond to problem-solving situation as well as to explore, discover, create and develop different ways of moving, while working together. Student teachers will be able to compose games and make improvised equipment to enhance the teaching-learning process.
