This course seeks to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively select and implement appropriate experiences to support the physical development of young children. Emphasis is on the selection of materials, equipment and related design of indoor and outdoor environments. It encompasses a brief history and covers the benefits to be derived from physical education, with special emphasis on movement education and minor games. In addition, students will acquire knowledge of basic first aid practices including safety factors. Participation in this course will enable student teachers to create opportunities for children to respond to problem-solving situation as well as to explore, discover, create and develop different ways of moving, while working together. Student teachers will be able to compose games and make improvised equipment to enhance the teaching-learning process.
