Leo Selver
My name is Leo Selver; my career in teaching began in 1972 immediately after graduating from the Helena Jones Robinson High.
In 1974, I pursued a course in teaching in Jamaica at the Mico Teacher’s College.
In 1980, I obtained a Diploma in Youth and Development from the University of Guyana, which was a motivating factor in entering the field of Social Work.
After obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree in 1986 from the University of the West Indies Mona Campus, I entered into a long-term career in Social Work, which extended over two decades.
As a pioneer in the field of Social Work in TCI, I was involved in direct Social Work Practice as well as formulating and implementing several programmes and policies including Public Administration, Social Planning and Social Administration.
During my tenure in the Public Service, I worked practically in all the Government Ministries at top management level. I retired in 2007 as Permanent Secretary of Human Services.
My transition from Social Work practice to Social Work Education began in 2015 as an adjunct lecturer at the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College; I am presently a full-time lecturer at the Community College since 2017 lecturing in Social Work, Sociology, Politics and TCI Studies.
Hobbies are Sports and Music.
